Russian Theatre in London 2016

GENERAL

There are occasional productions in Russian in London.  One organisation that has staged such things is LTP, though they may no longer be active.  QMUL tend to put on a (very) student production each year–there’s a poster for the 2011 one here.  Vlada Lemeshevska now kindly has written on behalf of Xameleon Theatre Productions to say that they are hoping to stage plays in Russian with English subtitles going forward.  Otherwise–as far as I know–it tends to be down to discrete initiatives that are hard to predict.

As for Russian plays in English, the most consistent stager of these that I know of  is Victor Sobchak’s Theatre Collection, though it looks as though they may now have been exiled to Baron’s Court.

The London Theatre in New Cross did put on a number of Russian works, both in Russian and English. They also emailed to say that this was part of their artistic policy and they would be doing more Russian productions, again both in Russian and English.  Not far away, the Brockley Jack seems to have a continuing interest in staging classic Russian texts.

I’m not aware of any other theatre or company that consistently puts on Russian plays.

Do email me if there’s anything you think should be added to this page!  The listing of sources used may be useful if you want to publicise your own show, as well as for sheer pedantry.  Or you might be interested in Some Questions On Russian Theatre In London.
